Mediahuis is looking for ...an iOS/Swift Developer (design system engineer) to join the design system team within our digital department, Technology & Product Studio (TPS). And we believe you are the perfect candidate for that.
Because we need,
someone to build on Mediahuis's multibrand design system. Our design system started with a big focus on web technology, but in the meantime iOS and Android have been added. We need you to help us with this and to work on the high traffic apps of Belgian (GVA, De Standaard, Het Nieuwsblad and Het Belang van Limburg) and many more international newspapers. Native development, Swift, tooling, unit testing, automation, ... That's what gets you excited.

You have a work permit and are looking for a permanent position. We are not looking for a freelancer for this position.

Here's a summary of what the job entails:
  • You will work closely together with your colleagues: 4 developers and 1 UI designer in a small, self-managing team.
  • You will develop components and technical solutions for our design system and document them thoroughly. You also review code from your colleagues.
  • You will help extend the existing architecture on iOS (and possibly Android). You test your work thoroughly using unit tests, among other things.
  • You think about and help build the technical architecture of the design system.
  • You have an open communication style and listen to the needs of developers in other teams, and translate these into well thought-out technical solutions
What's about to become your second home?You will be working at TPS, the International digital department of Mediahuis, where you will be part of the Central Design team. This team is responsible for conceiving and monitoring a clear vision of the design of our news products in an international context. As a company with 6 million daily users, it is our ambition to offer our readers the optimal user experience.  
What's on your CV, is important, but by no means the only thing we care about. You understand the impact of a shared design system, used by (currently) more than 25 brands.
  • You can develop fluently and independently;
  • You have knowledge of Swift and SwiftUI;
  • You have experience creating and managing Swift libraries;
  • You have knowledge of package management within iOS (Swift Package Manager);
  • You have experience with (unit) testing;
  • You can communicate fluently and openly with colleagues inside and outside your team;
  • You have an eye for design detail.
You have an edge over other applicants if you also have knowledge and experience in other domains. Extra points for you if you also have knowledge of:
  • Design Systems;
  • Swift on Linux;
  • Jetpack Compose;
  • Android development;
  • Kotlin Multi Platform;
  • Accessibility;
  • Automated Visual Testing;
  • style-dictionary;
  • web technology;
  • Figma;
  • Docker;
  • Linux;
  • Continuous integration.
