About Hijabis At Work

Our platform builds the bridge between talented hijab-wearing women and inclusive employers who embrace diversity. Founded by DEI strategist and keynote speaker Hanan Challouki and driven by a mission to make a difference.

How did Hijabis at Work start?

When the academic year of 2023 started, Hanan Challouki was often asked: "Do you know where I can intern while wearing my hijab?"

Unfortunately, many companies and organizations still do not allow religious attire in the workplace. This lack of inclusivity poses a major challenge for students who want to pursue their dreams while staying true to their beliefs. This often leads to multiple rejections and reduced self- confidence.

A simple post on LinkedIn...

The story of Hijabis at Work began with a simple LinkedIn post in which Hanan Challouki asked which companies were open to interns wearing a hijab. This post reached half a million people and resulted in more than 1,000 sincere responses. It quickly became clear that this was not only a challenge for students but also for job seekers. The overwhelming response and evident need motivated Hanan to take action. On November 27, 2023, Hijabis at Work went live, and hundreds of employers quickly joined. The first step towards a more inclusive job market was taken.

What does wearing a hijab represent?

A hijab is a headscarf worn by many Muslim women to cover their hair, neck, and sometimes shoulders. It is an expression of modesty and privacy and is part of Islamic attire. The hijab is worn in accordance with religious and cultural norms and can come in various styles and forms, depending on personal preferences and local traditions and trends.
