The Africa-Europe Foundation (AEF) is recruiting a Data Analysis and Visualisation Assistant for a paid six-month internship (under a contrat d’immersion professionnelle) starting January 2025, to support AEF’s work to provide up-to-date information and data, reflecting the latest developments within the Africa-Europe partnership, aggregating available information from trusted sources.

This is a great opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge on the Africa-Europe Foundation and the framework in which it operates within African and European environments. You will provide assistance to the staff in commitment tracking and monitoring plans, results frameworks and implementation, supporting the commitment tracking system, processes and tools, contributing to measuring, analysing, and reporting results, while gaining insights into the development cooperation and international relations of African and European countries.

WHAT DO WE MEAN BY TRAINEESHIP?

At AEF, we see traineeships as a way of combining initial full-time work experience with hands-on training. That’s why our traineeships are for people who have recently graduated and are eager to acquire a first work experience.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

  • Identify key data to support policy analysis – economic data, social data, perceptions and public opinion polls.
  • Compile datasets and undertake data analysis to identify trends and new developments. Build narrative around findings.
  • Develop engaging data visualizations, diagrams, and other graphics to enhance the clarity and communication of AEF (research) outputs.
  • Transform raw data into clear, captivating illustrations with content tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Support the AU-EU Commitment Tracking Team by identifying additional data and designing visuals that reflect key trends and stakeholder priorities.
  • Ensure all visual content aligns with AEF branding and effectively conveys key messages.
  • Participate in weekly coordination meetings with colleagues to align on data needs and deliverables.
  • Contribute to the creation and dissemination of AEF deliverables, including reports, briefs, and presentations, by providing data inputs and data visualisation aids.
  • Strengthen the capacity of the AEF teams by enhancing the visual appeal and accessibility of reports and research content.
  • Reporting on the findings.
  • Any other reasonable tasks assigned.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS DO I NEED TO HAVE?

Profile – behavioural competencies

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Team player and collaborative attitude.
Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Communication, Data Visualization or Information Design, or other related fields.
Knowledge & skills

  • Interest in international relations, ideally Africa-Europe.
  • Experience in presenting data in interesting ways
  • Experience in building dataset, online research, conducting research projects and developing data-driven research products;
  • Excellent knowledge of English; fluency in French an added value; other languages an advantage.
  • Proficient in software and digital tools: data visualisation tools, Microsoft Office (especially Excel), database management, Zoom
